It’s not clear exactly why kids love Minecraft so much. Is it the ability to build whatever they can dream up? To explore and go on adventures? To slay dragons and other monsters?
Chances are, it’s all of the above, and they can do it in all one colorful place. Whatever the reason, Minecraft is wildly popular among kids worldwide. As video games go, it’s also pretty great for kids, as it helps develop their creativity, problem-solving and math skills (at least in creative mode).
That said, you don’t want your kids to be staring at screens all hours of the day, so getting them a Minecraft-themed toy can be a fantastic way to entice them into the real world. Whether it’s building Minecraft structures, playing out Minecraft adventures with role-play toys, or engaging their minds with Minecraft-themed puzzles, there are loads of toys to entertain young Minecraft enthusiasts. Soon they will be too busy having fun with their Minecraft toys; they may even forget about playing Minecraft! (unlikely).
Our selected options are the cream of the crop regarding Minecraft gifts. We found them by sifting through hundreds of reviews (disregarding the fake ones) and choosing only the ones with ringing endorsements from kids and parents. So while it’s ultimately up to you to choose, you can rest assured that there are no duds here!

Frequently Asked Questions About Kids and Minecraft
🙋 Is Minecraft OK for a 5-year-old?
According to the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB), Minecraft suits kids aged 10+. This is partly due to the fantasy violence that can occur, like battling enemies, as well as the game’s complexity.
However, some rating systems classify Minecraft as 8+, which is trendy among kids aged 6 and above, regardless of the rating. Either way, 5 years old is probably too young for most kids. These ratings are guides rather than rules; you know your kiddo best.
💡 Make sure the game is set to play in creative mode, where there is no violence. |
🙋 Is there a kid’s version of Minecraft?
A kid’s version of Minecraft is explicitly designed to facilitate learning in a fun and engaging way, known as Education Edition. This edition of the game features activities suitable for kids at different points in their school careers, from K through 12.
The activities are geared around helping kids learn all kinds of skills, from STEM skills to creative problem-solving, collaboration and more! Minecraft: Education Edition is free for anyone with an Office 365 Education account. You can still taste the game with a free Hour of Code if you don’t have one.
🙋 What age do kids like Minecraft?
Although the ESRB has classified Minecraft as suitable for kids aged 10 and up, it is wildly popular among kids aged 6 and up. While many kids aged 12 and older still enjoy Minecraft, it is most popular among 6-8 year-olds, especially boys. Indeed, in the U.S., 68% of boys aged 6-8 play the game!
So if you are okay with the mild level of cartoon violence or limit your child to playing in creative mode, chances are they will love Minecraft if they fall into that age category.
So… What Minecraft Toy Should I Get?
Minecraft players come in all shapes and sizes, so you must pick a toy from the list above that suits your little builder/mob destroyer! If they love building stuff, one of the LEGO sets or the Minecraft Explorer Kit should go down a treat. But if they’re more into role-playing inside the game, one of the roleplay weapons or even a Nerf blaster could be ideal.
We did our best to be as comprehensive as possible, but missing something is always possible. So if you didn’t spot your kid’s favorite Minecraft toy on the list, let us know!
